About Lake Nakuru
Lake Nakuru National Park in the Rift Valley is a fenced rhino sanctuary with both black and white rhinos, as well as Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards and many birds. Flamingo numbers vary as lake levels change. Read rhinos of Lake Nakuru.
The park fee is US$90 per adult per day. Baboon Cliff gives a sweeping view over the lake, and Makalia Falls lies in the south. See the Lake Nakuru guide.
The park is compact, so a few hours of driving cover the main areas, from the lakeshore woodland to the ridge-top viewpoints. Rhinos often graze in the open grassland near the lake, and leopards rest in the yellow-barked acacia trees. Because the park is fenced and well protected, Nakuru is one of the most reliable places in Kenya to see rhinos. See our rhinos of Lake Nakuru story and the Kenya guide for where else to look.
Planning your stay
One night or a long half day is enough, often on the way to the Mara. See our 4-day Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru safari.
