Birding 14 days14-Day Uganda Birding Safari
Uganda’s classic birding circuit in two weeks: from the shoebill at Mabamba to Albertine Rift endemics in Bwindi, Congo-basin species in Semuliki and the famous Royal Mile in Budongo Forest.

An intimate tented lodge in the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, between the Rwenzori foothills and Lake Albert, with only a handful of luxury tents.
Semliki Safari Lodge is in the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve, in the Albertine Rift between the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Albert. It is one of the few places to stay in the Semliki Valley.
The lodge has a small number of luxury tents and safari suites on raised wooden platforms, with private verandas, en-suite bathrooms and four-poster beds.
The lodge offers game drives, night drives, boat trips on Lake Albert, where shoebills are regularly seen, and chimp tracking with researchers in the reserve’s forests.
Travellers seeking a remote, exclusive lodge.
The Semuliki Valley is reached from Fort Portal on a scenic road over the Rwenzori foothills. Fort Portal is about five to six hours by road from Kampala.
The Semuliki Valley lies below the Rwenzori Mountains on the Congo border. Semuliki National Park protects lowland forest linked to the Congo Basin, with birds found nowhere else in East Africa and the Sempaya hot springs, while the Toro-Semliki Wildlife Reserve has savannah, forest and the shore of Lake Albert. Read Semuliki’s Congo-basin birds.
The valley is hot and humid, so activities start early and rest during the middle of the day. The drier months, December to February and June to August, make forest trails easier, while birders often prefer the wetter months, when many species are breeding. See our birders’ travel guide and the Kibale chimpanzee guide to combine the two regions.
Two nights allow birding, the hot springs and a Lake Albert boat trip. Combine with Kibale and the crater lakes. See our 14-day Uganda birding safari.
