Kati Kati Tented Camp

A simple mobile tented camp in the Serengeti in the style of the old explorers’ camps, with all infrastructure designed to leave no trace.

Kati Kati is a mobile tented camp in the Serengeti, designed in the spirit of the old explorers’ camps but with modern comforts. All of its infrastructure is mobile, so the camp leaves nothing behind when it moves.

Rooms

Tents stand at ground level with private porches and either a double bed or two twin beds, each with a bathroom and a bucket shower. A family tent links two tents with a shared bathroom. Meals are served in dining tents.

Why we like it

  • Authentic camping inside the Serengeti.
  • Great value.
  • Low environmental impact.

Who it suits

Budget travellers and families wanting a real camp experience.

Getting there

Seronera is about three to four hours’ drive from the Ngorongoro highlands, or about an hour by light aircraft from Arusha. Most travellers drive in from Ngorongoro and fly out, or the reverse.

Things to do nearby

  • Game drives for lions, leopards and cheetahs around Seronera.
  • Hot-air balloon flights at dawn. See hot-air balloon over the Serengeti.
  • The Great Migration as it passes through in season.
  • Olduvai Gorge on the way from Ngorongoro. See Olduvai Gorge.

About the central Serengeti

The Seronera valley in the heart of the Serengeti has water all year, so it holds wildlife in every season, especially big cats: lions on the kopjes, leopards in the sausage trees along the rivers and cheetahs on the open plains. The Great Migration passes through between about April and June and again from November to January. Read big cats of the central Serengeti.

Seronera airstrip has daily flights from Arusha, and the drive from the Ngorongoro highlands takes about three to four hours, passing Olduvai Gorge on the way. Conservation fees are charged per person for every 24 hours inside the park. See the Serengeti guide.

Planning your stay

Tanzania’s parks are linked by good roads and short flights, so we usually combine two or three areas in one journey. See our 5-day Tanzania safari and 7-day Tanzania northern circuit safari, or ask for tailor-made pricing.
