About Amboseli
Amboseli is famous for its elephants and its views of Mount Kilimanjaro across the border in Tanzania. The Amboseli Trust for Elephants has studied its elephants since 1972, and the population was about 2,000 at the end of 2025. Swamps fed by Kilimanjaro’s groundwater attract wildlife all year. Read elephants beneath Kilimanjaro.
The park fee is US$90 per adult per day. Clear views of the mountain are most likely at dawn and in the late afternoon, and community conservancies around the park offer walks and quieter drives. See the Amboseli guide.
Amboseli is dry and dusty for much of the year, and the swamps are where the action is: elephants wade in to feed, while hippos, buffalo and many water birds share the green marshes. The drier months, June to October and January to February, are best for game viewing, and the short rains in November rarely stop drives. Amboseli pairs well with the Masai Mara for a classic Kenya circuit. See our elephant safaris and the Kenya guide for ideas on combining parks.
