Buhoma Lodge
Ten individually designed chalets just inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park at Buhoma, on the access road to the park headquarters and the gorilla briefing point.
Buhoma Lodge is one of the few lodges set just inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, on the access road to the Buhoma park headquarters where gorilla treks begin. It is part of a small group of camps in western Uganda that also includes Ishasha Wilderness Camp in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Rooms
The lodge has ten chalets: nine standard chalets and one for families or honeymooners. They are built from local materials, with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms with rain showers and hot water, insect-proof windows and solar lighting.
Activities
Besides gorilla trekking, the lodge arranges forest hikes, birdwatching, farmland walks, tea plantation visits, cultural visits and Batwa experiences.
Why we like it
- Inside the park, a short walk from the gorilla briefing.
- A natural pairing with Ishasha Wilderness Camp for tree-climbing lions.
Who it suits
Travellers who want to be inside the park, and those combining gorillas with Ishasha.
Things to do nearby

About the Buhoma sector
Buhoma, in the north of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, was the first sector opened for gorilla trekking, in 1993, and it has the widest choice of lodges. Several habituated gorilla families are trekked from the Buhoma briefing point, and the waterfall trail, the Buhoma community walk and Batwa experiences make good afternoon activities. Kihihi airstrip is about an hour away, and Ishasha’s tree-climbing lions are about two hours to the north. Read Bwindi’s four gorilla sectors compared.
Gorilla permits and booking
Gorilla permits are tied to a sector and date, so we secure your permit first and then book a lodge in the same area. Uganda’s permit costs US$800 (US$600 in April, May and November 2026). Read book gorilla permits first and our gorilla trekking guide.
Ask us to combine this lodge with a lake stay at Lake Bunyonyi or a wildlife stop in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
