Gorilla Bluff Lodge on its ridge above Bwindi forest
Budget lodge · Buhoma, Bwindi

Gorilla Bluff Lodge

A small, affordable lodge on a ridge facing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, about 10–15 minutes from the Buhoma gate.

Gorilla Bluff Lodge is one of the newer affordable lodges in Buhoma. It sits on an elevated ridge facing the forest, about 10–15 minutes from the Buhoma gate, and it is a good base for gorilla trekking in the Buhoma and Ruhija sectors.

Rooms

The lodge is small, with a few standard rooms and a larger self-contained cottage that suits families or small groups. Rooms have en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and balconies overlooking the forest.

Why we like it

  • Good value close to the Buhoma trailhead.
  • A small, personal lodge with forest views.
  • Suitable for budget-conscious travellers and small groups.

Who it suits

Budget-conscious travellers and small groups trekking in Buhoma.

Things to do nearby

  • Gorilla trekking from the Buhoma briefing point.
  • The waterfall trail, a forest walk with birds and primates.
  • The Buhoma community walk and the Batwa experience. See the Buhoma community walk.
  • Ishasha’s tree-climbing lions, about two hours away.

About the Buhoma sector

Buhoma, in the north of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, was the first sector opened for gorilla trekking, in 1993, and it has the widest choice of lodges. Several habituated gorilla families are trekked from the Buhoma briefing point, and the waterfall trail, the Buhoma community walk and Batwa experiences make good afternoon activities. Kihihi airstrip is about an hour away, and Ishasha’s tree-climbing lions are about two hours to the north. Read Bwindi’s four gorilla sectors compared.

Gorilla permits and booking

Gorilla permits are tied to a sector and date, so we secure your permit first and then book a lodge in the same area. Uganda’s permit costs US$800 (US$600 in April, May and November 2026). Read book gorilla permits first and our gorilla trekking guide.

Planning tip

Ask us to combine this lodge with a lake stay at Lake Bunyonyi or a wildlife stop in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
