Mweya Safari Lodge

A classic lodge on the Mweya Peninsula in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park, overlooking the Kazinga Channel with the Rwenzori Mountains beyond.

Mweya Safari Lodge stands on the Mweya Peninsula, between the Kazinga Channel and Lake Edward, in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is managed by Marasa Africa, which also runs lodges in Bwindi and Murchison Falls.

Rooms

The lodge has a large range of rooms, from standard rooms with private balconies to deluxe and superior rooms, family cottages and safari tents. Many look out over the channel, where hippos and elephants are often seen.

Why we like it

  • Walking distance to the Kazinga Channel boat jetty.
  • Spectacular views of the channel and the Rwenzori.
  • A wide choice of rooms for couples and families.

Who it suits

Families and travellers who want a classic lodge with views and easy access to the boat cruise.

Getting there

The northern part of the park, around Mweya, Kasenyi and Katunguru, is about six to seven hours by road from Kampala via Mbarara, or three hours from Kibale. Ishasha in the south is about two hours from Bwindi’s Buhoma sector. Flights from Entebbe serve Kasese and Mweya airstrips in the north and Kihihi near Ishasha.

About Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park stretches from the Rwenzori foothills to the Ishasha River on the Congo border. Its highlights are the Kazinga Channel boat cruise, with huge numbers of hippos and waterbirds, lions and Uganda kob on the Kasenyi plains, chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge and the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha in the south. More than 600 bird species have been recorded. Read the Kazinga Channel boat cruise.

Planning your stay

Two or three nights in Queen Elizabeth allow a boat cruise, a morning on the Kasenyi plains and a walk in Kyambura Gorge. The park sits between Kibale and Bwindi, so it fits naturally into most western Uganda itineraries. See our 3-day Queen Elizabeth National Park safari.
