Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge

A lodge on the Nkuringo ridge at about 2,100 metres, with cottages, villas and forest suites overlooking Bwindi’s canopy and the Virunga volcanoes.

Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge, formerly known as Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge, sits on a ridge at about 2,100 metres along the remote southern edge of Bwindi. Its views stretch across the Kashasha River valley to the forested Nkuringo hill and, on clear days, to the Virunga volcanoes.

Rooms

Accommodation includes garden cottages, villas and forest suites. Each has an en-suite bathroom, a fireplace for the cool evenings and a private veranda with views over the forest.

Why we like it

  • Spectacular ridge-top views.
  • Cosy rooms with fireplaces at altitude.
  • A quiet, scenic base for Nkuringo and Rushaga treks.

Who it suits

Travellers who love views and a quiet, scenic setting.

Things to do nearby

  • Gorilla trekking in Nkuringo or nearby Rushaga.
  • The Nkuringo–Buhoma walk through the forest for keen hikers.
  • Lake Mutanda for canoeing with volcano views.
  • Mgahinga for golden monkeys and volcano hikes. See volcano hikes in Mgahinga.

About the Nkuringo sector

Nkuringo sits on a high ridge on the southern edge of Bwindi, with the forest on one side and views towards the Virunga volcanoes on the other. Treks here often start with a steep descent into the forest, so good fitness helps. Rushaga is close enough that permits for either sector can work from Nkuringo lodges, and Kisoro airstrip, Mgahinga and Lake Mutanda are nearby. Read Bwindi’s four gorilla sectors compared.

Gorilla permits and booking

Gorilla permits are tied to a sector and date, so we secure your permit first and then book a lodge in the same area. Uganda’s permit costs US$800 (US$600 in April, May and November 2026). Read book gorilla permits first and our gorilla trekking guide.

Planning tip

Ask us to combine this lodge with a lake stay at Lake Bunyonyi or a wildlife stop in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
