Wildlife 5 days5-Day Samburu and Ol Pejeta Safari
Rhinos on the Laikipia plateau, then the dry, beautiful north where reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras and gerenuks gather along a palm-lined river: Kenya beyond the Mara, in five days.

A tented camp on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in Samburu, with river-view tents and programmes for children.
Samburu Intrepids stands on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River in the Samburu reserve area. Elephants and other wildlife come to the river close to the camp.
The camp has around 28 tents with views over the river, and it is known for its family programmes.
Families and first-time visitors to Samburu.
Samburu is about five to six hours by road from Nairobi via Nanyuki and Isiolo, with views of Mount Kenya. Daily flights from Nairobi take about an hour.
Samburu in northern Kenya is home to the Samburu Special Five: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, gerenuk and Somali ostrich. The Ewaso Ng’iro River draws elephants, leopards and lions, and community conservancies around the reserve offer walks and cultural visits. Read Samburu’s northern species.
The dry seasons, June to October and January to March, are best, when animals gather along the river. Samburu combines well with Ol Pejeta Conservancy and the Masai Mara. See the Samburu guide.
Samburu is hot and dry, with rocky hills and doum palms lining the river, a very different landscape from the Mara’s grasslands. The river is the lifeline: in the dry months elephants dig for water in the sandy riverbed, and leopards are often seen in the riverside trees. The Samburu people, cousins of the Maasai, still herd cattle and camels across the region. See our elephant guide and the Kenya guide for combining Samburu with other parks.
Two or three nights are ideal. We can add Samburu to any Kenya itinerary; ask for tailor-made pricing.
